Basic Ikea cabs and countertops were used to keep the budget low. We added apple ply cabinet door and drawer fronts with a simple cut out instead of a handle and sprayed them the dark red of the sixties formica pallette. Reclaimed oak lines the walls with open ply shelving, copied from the beloved Jens Risom summer house. The cups and mosaic were Etsy finds. The dishwasher has a custom front so it doesn’t break the rhythm. We splashed out on a vanilla Smeg fridge and found the wonderful old cupboard in a local vintage store. This sweet 1920s Casita in downtown Boulder had great bones. We restored it back to its original glory, cleaning and replacing the terra cotta tile and oak hardware floors and remodeling the kitchen and bathroom. We added a wood-burning stove for increased efficiency.
